Yesterday’s apple festival at the local grange hall was great fun. I think everyone who came had a good time, and I hope that it helped our friends who provide the lovely heirloom apples! All of us were able to help with set-up, serving and clean-up. The weather was lovely and the people who came were just as nice as the weather!
Here are a few pics. If you let your mouse hover over the picture, you’ll get a caption.

I did not bake anything for this… just served it up. That’s me, in the apron.

For those who may not be familiar, a “grange hall” is a meeting place, originally established in farming and rural communities. The grange membership is composed of community members who work to make life better for the community, and they make their buildings available to people for events.
As a side note, this is the hall where my beloved and I had our first year’s anniversary party… since we hadn’t done the whole “wedding thing” it was our chance to share our happiness with friends and family. More on that (and a few pics) another time…

Blogger nrkii (see the JourneyWoman link in my Regular Haunts to the right) had a link to the losanjealous site, that offers Family Circus cartoons with Nietzsche quotes… here’s one that I found resonated with me.
http://www.losanjealous.com/
Note that the link is actually a longer address than shows up. If the link is broken, use the URL you see and click on losanjealous labs; then Nietzsche Family Circus
It is astonishing how much sense the quotes make with the random images…

Well, I have a virus. Not sure yet what it is, but I was feeling pretty good yesterday, woke up with a sore throat on one side (it’s always the same side), and an earache, and dizzy. Spent the first half of the day in bed, sleeping mostly. The rest of the day on the sofa, except for a couple hours at my mother’s.
Need I say that it annoyed me to be unable to do anything around the house today?
And it’s not getting better… though I have stayed awake since mid-afternoon, it seems to be getting worse. Even acetaminophen isn’t taking care of it.
Hoping I will be better tomorrow — need to work on those costumes for the kids!
On the other hand, it rained. A lot! And so the plants, the animals, and the people are much happier. There have, however, been some bad accidents on the roads. Remember, the first really good rains after a dry spell make the roads as slippery as ice when you try to stop. Slow down, leave good following distance, and watch the other drivers.
